Advanced Air Traffic Systems (M) Sdn Bhd (AAT) was established on 30 April 1994 as a follow on to the implementation of the Malaysian Air Traffic Services Modernization Program (MATSMP) by the Malaysian Government in 1992, undertaken by CIVIL AVIATION AUTHORITY OF MALAYSIA Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM). The MATSMP project was awarded to Alenia S.p.A., a Finmeccanica company of Italy. AAT was nominated as the beneficiary and become the platform for the Transfer of Technology (TOT) program to Malaysia from Finmeccanica S.p.A. (now known as Leonardo S.p.A.).
As the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) and supplier of the MATSMP Air Traffic Control (ATC) radar and systems acquired by Malaysia, the Malaysian Government advised Finmeccanica to establish a local partner for the purpose of transferring relevant technology on ATC radar in particular and air traffic management (ATM) system in general to Malaysian local engineers and technicians. Following this, on 28 December, 1993, a Partnership Agreement was signed between two local Malaysian companies namely, Airod Sdn Bhd (an Aviation MRO company) and Tahap Harmoni Sdn Bhd (an investment company) with Alenia S.p.A. of Italy, a well known manufacturer and worldwide supplier of ATM systems.
Subsequently, on 30 April 1994, a partnership company was established and officially registered with the Malaysian Registrar of Companies (ROC) and named as Airod Alenia Technology (M) Sdn Bhd (AAT). In 2001 British Aerospace (BAE)of United Kingdom became shareholder of Alenia and Alenia changed its name to Alenia Marconi Systems (AMS). In line with this, AAT changed its name to Airod AMS Technology (M) Sdn Bhd. In 2003 as part of a rebranding exercise, AAT BOD renamed AAT as Advanced Air Traffic Systems (M) Sdn Bhd primarily to reflect AAT core business activity in integrated logistics support services for ATM systems and this name has remained until today.
AAT is a Bumiputera status company. With a modest beginning of just 6 staff back in 1994, AAT currently has 200 staff including 167 fully trained, experienced, skilled and competent technical personnel. Among the technical personnel 43 of them are specialists in CNS-ATM systems. AAT inculcated the culture of “First class Facilities with First Class Maintenance” and has been providing maintenance services to CAAM high technology, sophisticated and complex ATC radar and systems since its establishment.

AAT is currently involved in implementing new satellite based technology related to ATM system as well as implementing major ATM projects for CAAM.
With strong government and customers support, AAT has grown from strength to strength, achieving unprecedented success in its work and is expanding its services into the Asia-Pacific. Currently AAT is a one-stop centre for aviation and air traffic safety and provides a highly comprehensive range of asset and performance management services to all its clients.
